Swansea Family Dental

How often do I have to go to the dentist?

We recommend that patients have an appointment at least every six months for a check-up and hygiene appointment. During this appointment, patients will receive an examination of the teeth and gums, as well as an oral cancer screen.

Your dentist is often the first to notice suspicious lesions or precancerous cells inside the mouth. Oral cancer is highly treatable when detected early. Your oral cancer screening could mean the difference between life and death, which is why we recommend that patients with dentures maintain their twice-yearly check-ups as well.

Our hygienist will evaluate your gums and will do a clean. Every dental clean is designed to meet your oral health needs – whether you are right on schedule with your clean appointment or you have some catching up to do.

Our hygienist is knowledgeable and will share vital information to help you control and prevent gum disease.

In some cases, we may recommend that patients have more frequent visits to the dental clinic. Patients with medical conditions or prescription medications that increase the risk of developing gum disease or decay can sometimes benefit from dental cleans 3-4 times per year.

At Swansea Family Dental, we always base our recommendations on your current oral health needs.
